Bibliophilia

This project explores the space and place of contemporary libraries. In the digital era, the materiality of libraries and physical archives is changing drastically, and our engagement with research space is evolving at warp speed. Libraries are finding ways to balance the virtual and the physical while developing programs that encourage communal engagement with our history and knowledge.

I am interested in the communal place and the transformation of the physical archive. This work intends to bring to life the importance of maintaining, preserving and celebrating the brick-and-mortar idea of a library through a formal photographic study.

Every photograph was made in working libraries, nothing in the studio. The aim is formal elegance: shelves, book holders, files and light looked at closely enough that the everyday becomes almost abstract.
