A photographic book with writing at its center, made in Santurce, Puerto Rico. It grows from my cousin Carlitos, killed by a drunk driver in 2006, and his older brother Juanko, and from walks through the neighborhood where my abuela lived.
The book will be chaptered and literary: photographs, extended prose, surviving family photographs, and suturas, short handwritten stitches of prose that sew a photograph to the life around it.
In the sun and in the shade, neither position is complete. The work is made by moving between them.
